Winter Concert. 25th Jan 2020: 7.30pm at The Dolphin Centre, Darlington DL1 5RP.
A Great Opportunity!
We’re not ones for blowing our own trumpets, but we think Darlington Orchestra is a pretty top troupe to be part of. If you’ve got a trumpet (or French horn, or trombone, or tuba) that you think would like to join us, bring it along to a Tuesday night rehearsal and see what we’re about!
We currently have around 40 members, and whilst we can always welcome new string players it’s not often there’s an opportunity to join our brass and percussion sections. But as a few of our players have recently retired from making music we’ve got some openings for new people to come along and join us. We’re particularly looking to welcome new players of timpani and incidental percussion as well brass instruments (French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba) and double reeds.
We’ve got an informal and relaxed approach at Darlington Orchestra and a varied programme, as our conductor David Plews explains: “Instead of the large-scale symphonies and longer, complex pieces of music often seen on concert billings, we always have a blended programme of works from across the years and in all sorts of styles. So at one rehearsal you might have a John Williams soundtrack on the stands, at another a Verdi opera overture. For our players it means there’s always something new and interesting to get to grips with.”
Musicians are more than welcome to come along to a rehearsal and see what we’re about. We rehearse every Tuesday evening during term time at St Thomas Aquinas church hall on North Road, Darlington from 7pm-9pm. Concerts are held twice a year in central hall at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington.
If you’re interested in finding out more about joining the orchestra call 01325 251383, email admin@darlington-orchestra. or just pop along one Tuesday night.
